  3. I’ve noticed a few people recently refer to their top-level pages as “slash pages”. Honestly my first reaction was “Aren’t those just ‘pages’?”, but I’ve come to find the term kinda fun. But when people started adding a /slashes slash page, I thought “Isn’t that a sitemap”? XML sitemaps are...

  7. For displaying webmentions on a static site, I went with using webmention.io as my webmention endpoint and fetching responses in the browser using https://github.com/PlaidWeb/webmention.js To send webmentions, I have an automatic process in my Netlify build to check my feed and send mentions, but you could also use https://webmention.app/ to...

  9. I also feel some of the tension you describe Jacky. I don’t see the IndieWeb taking over the internet soon. There are still to many barriers to onboarding and the tools aren’t quite polished enough to provide a top tier user experience. I’m honestly not convinced it will ever be...

  13. I hope it goes better this time! I can recommend hopping into chat for humans who can help explain things. You can also try out the experimental forum someone recently set up. If there are parts of the wiki you think should be improved, feedback is welcome.

  15. A search engine that only checks posts from specific people and sites you follow. Specifically for recipes, reviews/recommendations. There’s a lot of SEO crap out there. This would hinge on people and brands building enough trust that people opt-in to them rather than building enough SEO juice to get to...

  16. IndieWebCamp San Diego 2023

I’ve been part of the IndieWeb community for a while, mostly via online meetups and a community chat group but I was excited to finally meet people in person when San Diego was chosen as a location for an IndieWebCamp at the end of 2023. The IndieWeb is a community...

  19. Ideas for improving metaformats parsing

Why metaformats I first became interested in the metaformats spec when I wanted to generate link previews on my site when bookmarking or replying to pages. Metaformats is an extension to the microformats2 parsing algorithm that provides a fallback for sites that don’t support microformats. It works by translating the...

  20. Receiving webmentions was easy to set up with webmention.io and webmention.js. For a static site, sending webmentions is a little messier, but there is a netlify plugin that I’ve found helpful. Always room for improvement though.

  24. @Alanmoo, what concerns do you have? There should be options regardless of your framework. For receiving webmentions, webmention.io should be pretty flexible. I’m using webmention.js to display those mentions but mainly because I’m lazy. For sending, I use a modified netlify build plugin. I am thinking about some improvements to...

For about 2 years now, I have pulled back from the major social media platforms. While I still have accounts on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, I’ve made the choice to avoid them as much as possible. Initially, I was afraid this would disconnect me from important relationships. I do miss...

  27. I also have a static site and one thing I’ve been considering is having a Micropub server to handle the interactive parts. The API is a little restrictive but it’s simpler than having a fully dynamic site. Indiekit is a cool project that hooks into a static site repo. It...
